Celtic have put an end to supporters turning up at Lennoxtown in the hope of getting an autograph, after the club put a sign outside the training facility putting an end to the practice.

Shared by Celtic collectibles on Twitter, the sign says that players and management will no longer stop to sign items or take pictures when they’re coming too and from the training ground.

We’ve reached out to the club for the reason behind the decision but many have speculated online it’s due to autograph scalpers hanging about Lennoxtown to get jerseys signed then sell them online.

PolMac7 wrote on Twitter: “With the amount of one’s wanting shirts signed I’d say it was only a matter of time. The number of them for sale on eBay atm is unreal.”

Another wrote: “Probably because it’s not a handful of kids wanting shirts signed, but grown men demanding loads of strips and merch gets signed so they can flog them on eBay. Embarrassing stuff.”

It’s a shame the club have felt the need to do this because we’ve seen over the years delighted young fans getting a top signed or a picture with one of their heroes.

Many of the Celtic players have been very accommodating in the past. We hope the club will at least make more of an effort to allow young fans the chance to meet the players. The young huddle club puts kids in the draw for meet and greets several times a year. Perhaps they should be looking to give more opportunities over the course of a season.

The Celtic players have got a job to do, but there should always be room for a little bit of come and go between the supporters. There are always going to be idiots that ruin it, but it’s the genuine supporters that are paying the price.

If you want a signed shirt of one of your favourite players it will run you more then £400 in the Celtic superstore.
