We’ve used three goalkeepers this season and we’re not even halfway through the campaign. That tells you everything you need to know about the current state of play when it comes Celtic’s final line of defence.

Vasilis Barkas was brought in this summer with high hopes he could hit the ground running but our overriding image of the player is him standing in place while he’s beaten by a number of attacking players.

Right now, it looks like the scouting team have got this one terribly wrong.

If Celtic are to correct course, they almost certainly must push for a new goalkeeper in January. No disrespect to Conor Hazard or Scott Bain but right now our options in goals are a number two or number three – it’s not ideal.

We need a goalkeeper who can win us points, turn a loss into a draw and a draw into a win. Fraser Forster would be a natural choice but I don’t know how viable that is at this point.

Celtic are hopefully doing more homework to see what they can come up with.

If they do bring in a goalkeeper in January, it would likely spell the end for Barkas just six months into his Celtic career. An expensive mistake to say the least.

  1. Someone should be held responsible for buying these players and wasting millions. Lawell was boasting at the agm about backing the manager with 35 million worth of transfers, he must be blind if he can’t see 25million has been wasted on dross.

  2. Liewell is forever giving himself a constant pat on the back. His wages and Bonuses are the most Absurd. If we don’t get 10 in a Row.The buck should stop at his door,Simple.Res 12 wanted Sevco taken the full Hog yet PL was reluctant??Would put a block on the conveyor belt of Fans monies….Disgusting to think a Club can Blatantly Cheat not just Us but every Club they faced and Carry on as if F All happened

  3. I read somewhere (here?), That there could be a communication problem with the Lad, and that he was getting extra English lessons to try and help the sittu.
If true, it’s certainly not going to do his confidence any good, being unsure of what’s being said round about him, especially if you consider the varied accents being used. Start with Big Duffy and work through the rest from there!
Also, he’s moved to a new country and City in the middle of a global pandemic and a social lockdown. Is he stuck in an apartment when not at training, what kind of social contact does he have?
Normally he would be at least socialising with his team mates, which would help with his getting to know the Bhoys better, make picking up the lingo easier and do his confidence a world of good.

The guys got it really hard. I think on this occasion the player needs some leeway in settling down, it can’t be easy for him.
I think he’ll be given time.
