CELTIC are reportedly stepping up their efforts to solve their defensive shortage by heading back to the well that brought them Jozo Šimunović.

The club is being very proactive in looking at their options for January and are working under the assumption they will be in Europe beyond Christmas.

With that in mind, one of their key targets is a 20-year-old Filip Benkovic who the club have already tried to sign in the recent past.

Filip came through the ranks at Zagreb and got his break when Jozo signed for Celtic back in 2015.

Celtic has been priced out of a deal in the past but Dinamo Zagreb are said to be looking at their position on the young defender.

The failure to get European Football this season has put a real pressure on the club to sell some of their prized assets.

Filip has started eight league matches so far this season, scoring two goals in the process.

Dinamo are currently top of the Croatian League, enjoying a 4 point lead on their nearest rivals.
