When Stephen Welsh was stretchered off against St Mirren midweek, there was a lot of concern for the young centre-back about how long he would be sidelined.
Reports a few days ago suggested that wasn’t the case though and Welsh had escaped serious injury. That looks to have been confirmed this afternoon after pictures came out of the 20-year training ahead of Sunday’s game against St Johnstone.

It must have been a concern for himself, coming into the side and doing so well before picking up an injury. Luckily though, it was just heavy bruising which means he should hopefully be back in the side soon.
It’s no less than Welsh deserves. In recent weeks he has been one of the few shining lights who has come in and impressed.
From now until the end of the season could be a crucial spell, in terms of the young centre back settling into the first team, so he is ready to go for next season as a regular when called upon.
He has had two decent games and all of a sudden this boy is being made into flavour of the month. Give him a chance, long way to go.
