Celtic Football Club has issued a statement this afternoon in response to allegations made by the Green Brigade via social media. The Green Brigade claims that despite being barred from attending matches, they continue to incur charges for games they are not permitted to attend.

The controversy arose after the Green Brigade were denied entry to the recent match against St Mirren and were similarly excluded from obtaining tickets for the upcoming fixture against Atletico Madrid.

The group wrote on social media: This week, fans are losing hundreds of pounds on travel to Madrid for a game they are banned from. On top of this, the PLC continues to take direct debit payments for matches fans are currently banned from, with still no further communication with the fans affected.

In a clarification effort, the club has affirmed that those under suspension have not been charged for tickets to the Atletico away game. They also assured that compensation for any matches missed due to the suspension will be addressed in due course.

A Celtic spokesperson said: “No tickets were issued to the group for the match in Madrid or payment taken by the Club. For all home matches where tickets are suspended, reimbursement will be offered and an update will be made to all supporters shortly.”

The Green Brigade has also voiced their dissatisfaction about being financially disadvantaged, having invested in travel and accommodation for Madrid well in advance of the imposed suspension. Although the situation is less than ideal, it is anticipated that some members will still make the journey to Madrid to support the team from the city itself.

There is a palpable sense of frustration amongst the group due to the lack of immediate communication from the club regarding compensation for the matches they have missed, despite having paid for these through their season tickets.

It is expected that Celtic will refund the affected supporters. However, the current state of affairs regarding the suspension is somewhat uncertain. Celtic is preparing for their upcoming match against Aberdeen on Saturday, with the Green Brigade’s suspension still in place.

  1. Breached t & c’s of their ST conditions so can’t see why club is reimbursing them.
Celtic should use the funds to set off against UEFA fines and sue the GB for the remainder

  2. The Green Brigade has been infiltrated by Islamic militants and have brought shame on Celtic worldwide. I was in Jerusalem in October 2023 the day before the murder and rapes of women and children no compensation should be paid to them as they have damaged the reputation of Celtic and any money they have paid should be paid to food banks and homelessness and any empty seats can be filled with school kids and underprivileged
