Celtic are on the hunt for a goalkeeper ahead of Joe Hart’s retirement at the end of the season.

The veteran stopper will put an end to an illustrious career after the Scottish Cup final on the 25th of May.

For Hart, Brendan Rodgers needs a valid replacement. Several ‘keepers have already been linked with moves to Parkhead, one of those being Patrick Pentz.

Last week, it was reported that the Hoops, along with PSV Eindhoven and Southampton, were keen on signing the Austrian.

Currently on loan at Brondby, Pentz will return to his parent club Bayer Leverkusen this summer. His contract there runs until 2025.

With Leverkusen having the ever-reliable Lukas Hradecky as their number one, there likely isn’t a long-term future for the 27-year-old at the newly crowned Bundesliga champions.

While he has had a prosperous time on loan in Denmark, Pentz’s future will be up in the air come the summer and there is no denying Celtic’s need for a ‘keeper.

When asked about links to the Bhoys, he said: [Glasgow Times] “I get asked this question in interviews every week.

My contract at Leverkusen runs until summer 2025, so I can’t decide entirely on my own what happens next.

“My full focus is currently on the title fight and I will give everything for the club until the end. I feel very comfortable in Copenhagen: the club (Brondby), the city and the people just suit me perfectly.”
