Mikey Johnston made the switch to Portuguese side Vitória de Guimarães before the close of the summer transfer window and has received praise on his debut.

It was a winning start for the Celtic loanee as his side beat Santa Clara 1-0 with Johnston getting 45 minutes under his belt in the second half.

The 23-year old headed to Portugal on a season long loan deal and will be hoping to show his talent during his time in the Primeira Liga.

Many Celtic believe that Johnston just needs a run of games to show his ability and that time spent in Portugal could do him the world of good.

His Celtic career so far has been plagued with injury but from Postecoglou’s comments about the winger it appears that there still might be a future for him at Celtic Park.

Vitória’s assistant coach was full of praise for the Celtic academy graduate after the match highlighting his second half contribution.

“Regarding Mikey, he is a player with quality, strong in the one-on-one, with many years at Celtic. He showed that in a difficult game. It’s not the easiest game for a player to debut in, but he’s used to strong environments”, said Joao Aroso speaking to Portuguese outlet Record.

It’s great to hear these kind of ceomments while players are out on loan as they are still Celtic’s asset either way.

With a long run of games Johnston will be hoping to return to Glasgow next summer and stake his claim in the Hoops first team.
