Major French publication L’Equipe has reported this afternoon Celtic have had a bid rejected for Caen striker Alexandre Mendy.

It comes as rumours of Celtic’s activity in the transfer market ahead of next season ramping up in the past few days.

Mendy plays in the second tier of French football and has netted 16 times this season for Caen.

Of all the positions Celtic might look to strengthen, the strike force wasn’t top of the list. However, if the Hoops are looking to move Albian Ajeti on in the summer it would make sense to have more cover in the position.

But if it’s a back-up striker the club and Ange are looking for it might not be financially viable to bring in Mendy. The report claims Celtic’s bid of around £2.5m has been rejected. Would the Hoops board want to put any more into a signing that would sit behind Kyogo and Giakoumakis?

Injuries this season mean it would be wise to have another good option up front. Maeda can fill the space too but an out and out striker could be a good idea when we’re fighting on four fronts.

This report has come out of the blue, we’ll keep an eye on it but from what we’ve gathered recently. Ange has big plans in the off season.
