Celtic has been offered an opportunity to sign Charles Pickel who’s currently a Serie B standout midfielder for Cremonese.

Football Scotland has reported that the Scottish giants are actively seeking to enhance their midfield options, particularly focusing on a defensive midfielder, a role Pickel is well-versed in.

At 26 years old, Pickel, who also holds international caps with DR Congo, has attracted interest from several clubs, including notable names in the English Championship such as Leeds United and Preston North End. Despite this, it’s suggested that Celtic are the preferred choice for the midfielder.

Brendan Rodgers and Celtic’s recruitment team are reported to have been scouting for a player fitting Pickel’s profile, signalling that the club is serious about reinforcing their midfield.

However, this potential signing raises questions about the future of Tomoki Iwata and Bosun Lawal at Celtic. Iwata has shown promise in the holding midfielder position during Callum McGregor’s absence due to injury but has found game time limited when McGregor is fit. Similarly, Lawal, currently impressing on loan at Fleetwood Town, could see his path to the first team become more complicated if Pickel joins the Hoops.

  1. Sorry have watched Lawal, from 18s to playing in reserves and first team, and I’m convinced that he is not upto the standard to play for us.Looks good in championship because that’s his level Awata not a bad player but we need an enforcer for the middle of the park
