Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon and Rangers legend Ally McCoist have humorously accused Scott Brown of instigating the notorious Old Firm touchline bust-up that grabbed headlines years ago.

The incident resurfaced during a talkSPORT breakfast show where both Lennon and McCoist shared their thoughts on the fiery encounter, which has since become a laugh between the pair.

Last week, Brown, who was central to many Celtic v Rangers clashes, commented on the incident during a talkSPORT appearance, leading McCoist to joke about being set up.

Reflecting on the past with a lighter tone, Lennon noted that Brown was primarily occupied with riling up then-Rangers player El-Hadj Diouf during the game, suggesting his antics might have contributed to the touchline tensions. “Al, you’re asking the wrong man because Browny was too busy noising up El-Hadj Diouf all night. Them two were going at it hammer and tongs as well,” Lennon said as quoted by Football Scotland.

McCoist responded with laughter, acknowledging, “It was him that started it. And you and I ended up with the government having an argument about us!”

Alan Brazil, the host, shifted the conversation to Brown’s qualities as a player. Lennon praised his former captain, describing him as “fantastic” and “very underrated” as a footballer

“Listen, he was fantastic for me. A very underrated footballer. He had great power in his legs, he could run all day. And his football got better as he went on.

“As a guy in the dressing room he was absolutely fantastic. A great lad, very humble boy.”
