Celtic Rejected Opportunity to Sign Bayern Munich Star

The Hoops had been on the lookout for a right-back to cover for the injured Alistair Johnston who is expected to be out of action until the end of October. Johnston’s injury left the club light in the position with the inexperienced Colby Donovan being picked recently ahead of Anthony Ralston.

We at CeltsAreHere exclusively revealed late on Tuesday night that the Scottish giants were looking to do a deal for Feyenoord full-back Jordan Lotomba and that was one they got over the line before Thursday evening’s deadline.

But it could have been a different scenario for the Premiership champions as we can reveal Bayern Munich were looking to ship out Frenchman Boey, 25, who had been the subject of a Celtic offer back in 2021. Since that time he has gone on to flourish and become on of Europe’s elite right-backs but his club were open to allowing him a move to Parkhead.

It is understood Celtic did speak with representation regarding the defender and had made it clear how much of his salary they were willing to pay. And we understand Bayern would have had to eat a loss of around £2.7million, which they were willing to do.

Ultimately, when it came down to the final decision, Celtic opted to go in a different direction.

It could play out as a sliding doors moment for the Hoops from this window depending on how Lotomba fares in Glasgow. The Swiss international was added immediately to Celtic’s Europa League squad for their coming group stage matches.
