Celtic have confirmed the signing of Jordan Lotomba from Feyenoord on a deal until the end of the season.

The Swiss international becomes another late addition for Martin O’Neill after Celtic moved to strengthen the right side of defence before the window closed.

CeltsAreHere first reported last month that Celtic had made an approach for the Feyenoord right-back, with talks taking place between the clubs over what a deal could look like. At the time, it was understood to be genuine Celtic interest rather than simply a player being offered around.

The move then stepped up, with Celtic putting an offer on the table. Feyenoord were understood to be prepared to let Lotomba go without demanding an upfront fee, with discussions centred around add-ons and a percentage of any future sale.

His Feyenoord contract expires next summer anyway, which gave Celtic room to explore an unusual deal structure before getting the move over the line.

Lotomba had been expected to travel to Scotland to finalise the transfer after the deal accelerated late in the window. That has now been completed, giving O’Neill more cover at right-back while Alistair Johnston continues his recovery.

Speaking to CelticPlayer, Martin O’Neill said: “I’m really pleased to bring Jordan to Celtic. He is a quick, strong and experienced player.

“He is adaptable, can play on both sides of the pitch and he is very comfortable on the ball, so I think we are bringing another quality player to the club.”

Shaun Maloney had previously suggested right-back cover was not as urgent as left-back, pointing to Colby Donovan and Anthony Ralston as existing options while Johnston was out.

Even so, Celtic continued to work on Lotomba and have now added a player with experience in the Netherlands, France and international football.

Lotomba arrives as a short-term solution, but with his Feyenoord deal running down, Celtic will know there may be a longer conversation to be had if he settles quickly in Glasgow.
