Celtic’s reported right-back target Milan van Ewijk has looked to all but ruled out a move to the club in the summer saying he would prefer to stay in the Netherlands.

Reports suggested last week that Van Ewijk was a target for the Hoops as a replacement for Jeremie Frimpong in the summer. However, it has been reported by HITC, speaking to Voetbal Zone he revealed that he would rather stay in Holland at this stage of his career where he currently plays with ADO Den Haag.

“The Netherlands is a familiar environment for me. That is why I would prefer to learn here instead of abroad, where I don’t know anyone at all,” explains Van Ewijk, the brightest spark in a dark season for ADO.

“I want to grow gradually – as a player and as a person.

“I do sometimes hear there are clubs (interested in me) but I leave that to my father and my agent. I prefer to stay in the Netherlands now.”

After the departure of both Frimpong and Hatem Elhamed in the January window, it has left the club short on numbers with on-loan full-back Jonjoe Kenny looking like the only realistic, natural option to play there, even despite Anthony Ralston still being at the club.

So it is clear to see that the right-back area is one we will need to add too in the summer with Kenny also departing back to his parent club.

Currently, that would leave us with just youngster Lee O’Connor going forward, who is out on loan at Tranmere Rovers right now. Reinforcements are desperately needed, so work has to be underway to bring in replacements. Unfortunately, one of those looks to have ruled out a move already.
