The Celtic board is preparing to go to war with the SFA in support of their manager Brendan Rodgers after the Irishman was charged for his comments after a scandalous day of refereeing at Tynecastle.

The hearing is scheduled for a whopping 25 days after Rodgers’ comments following Celtic’s defeat at Tynecastle on Sunday, which saw the Hoops fail to jump back up to first place after Rangers dropped points to Motherwell on Saturday.

Celtic were reduced to ten men early in the first half after a bizarre VAR intervention. On field referee Don Robertson had yellow carded Celtic winger Yang for a high boot. However, John Beaton and VAR decided to get involved and the player was sent off for ‘serious foul play’. The fast track appeal was heard on Tuesday, TWO days after the fixture and was upheld.

Yang Celtic sent off

CeltsAreHere understands the club’s hierarchy are seething over the way the appeal was dealt with and the misinformation surrounding the contact between Yang and Cochrane that led to the appeal being thrown out. Pictures show in the immediate aftermath of the decision that Cochrane’s face was unharmed and not hurt by the boot of Yang despite the Hearts player falling to the ground clutching his face.

In the same game, another incredible John Beaton VAR intervention saw Celtic concede a ridiculous penalty. Again a clear and obvious error was not made by the infield ref for any sort of intervention to take place.

It led to Rodgers comments, which called into question the competence of the match officials and specifically John Beaton.

Referee Don Robertson

After the match, Rodgers said on Sky Sports: “I never like to comment on officials. It is not something I do. I’ve been stood here long enough but that cost us today. The officiating. From on-field to John Beaton in VAR – that was really, really poor.

“If you put the still on that [red card incident] it looks dangerous but that is not the reality of the move. There is no force there. The ball has popped up. Okay if it is a booking it is a booking. But that was really disappointing to go down to ten men with that.

“But to receive the penalty against us. Wow, that was even worse. You watch the incident again, Tommo [Iwata] jumps and is on his way down. He’s not looking and has been nudged a bit and that pushes his arm out. If that is a penalty you will have penalties every single game and every single week in a match because of that.

“That there is absolutely shocking decision making and I feel really, really disappointed. One for the players and two for the supporters. We are down a man, we get a poor penalty against us and all of a sudden we are chasing the game.”

We understand the charge against Rodgers has been met with severe disdain by the club who are also miffed as to why the hearing will be held so late in March.

The SFA setting up a scenario where they can censure the Celtic manager and put him in the stands for a pivotal show down against Rangers on April 7th. It’s all a bit convenient.

  1. That sfa are going to do ban him for run in so obvious but now watch refereeing decision now as referees circle the wagons going to c more dogie lines

  2. Who cares embarrase them BEATON is the LATEST line of biased refs like Les Mortrum Brian McGinley, Dallas, Syme, Tait the list goes on
Celtic had to have exceptional teams to overcome these bigoted refs. The issue always arises when we are not exceptional that allows the refs in Scotland sway results. But social media can call them out we are the biggest club in the country call them out get good lawyers and Sue them collectively or individually

  3. Always said Celtic and Sevco games need to be refereed by foreign ref’s. There is no one that doesn’t have a preference. Even your average Dunfermline fan has some tie to either club.

As for VAR, reviews should only overturn glaring errors, if lines need to be drawn for offside, then it’s advantage to the attacker.
We used to get two or three tv replays on the big screen at games and be able to see what happened. That is what a ref should get, 3 replays from 3 different angles. If no obvious error play on.
If we don’t do this we will be like the NFL where they schedule 4 hours for a game where the play only happens for one hour, but every play is scrutinised via dozens of replays from every angle.
