Former Celtic defender Kieran Tierney appears to be on the brink of leaving Arsenal, with reports suggesting that he is among the players earmarked for sale as manager Mikel Arteta reshapes the squad.

Arsenal insider Charles Watts has indicated on a YouTube video that Tierney’s tenure at the club is nearing its conclusion. Since his transfer in 2019 under Unai Emery, Tierney has seen his involvement wane under Arteta.

Despite a loan spell at Real Sociedad where Tierney made a positive impression, recurring injuries have marred his season, casting doubt on his future at Arsenal. The possibility of Sociedad making the move permanent remains uncertain, further fueling speculation about Tierney’s next destination.

“I think Tierney’s time at Arsenal is coming to an end. I don’t know where he’s going to go in the summer, Arsenal are open to selling him permanently. Last summer they couldn’t do that, no real bids came in for him, so they sent him off to Sociedad.

“Whether Sociedad will turn out permanently in the summer, we’ll have to wait and see. He’s made a good impact there, but he has had injuries again which have disrupted his season…I don’t see a way back for him at Arsenal.”

Celtic fans, nostalgic for Tierney’s impactful performances at the club, might harbour hopes of a return. Yet, practical considerations regarding Tierney’s wage expectations and Arsenal’s valuation could pose significant barriers to any potential deal.

Given Tierney’s injury record, any decision to re-sign him would entail a considerable risk.

However, the prospect of Tierney reuniting with Brendan Rodgers, under whom he delivered some of his most memorable performances, could prove tempting. Such a move could also afford Celtic flexibility in managing Tierney’s fitness, particularly with Greg Taylor as an alternative option at left-back.
