Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has found himself in hot water with the SFA following a vehement critique of the match officials after Celtic’s defeat to Hearts.

Rodgers’ comments, particularly aimed at VAR official John Beaton, have led to him being charged by the SFA, raising the possibility of impending sanctions.

The controversy stems from Celtic’s recent 2-0 loss in the Scottish Premiership, a match that was marred by contentious decisions, including the sending off of winger Yang for a high boot and a disputed handball penalty against Tomoki Iwata. Rodgers did not hold back in his post-match interview, calling out the VAR official by name and making his opinion perfectly clear on the incidents.

The SFA’s compliance officer, Martin Black, has issued a notice of complaint against Rodgers, citing a breach of Rule 72. Article 96.1. This rule prohibits individuals within Scottish football from publicly criticising match officials in a manner that suggests bias or incompetence, or that impinges on their character. Rodgers could face a 2-20 game touchline ban.

Rodgers is scheduled to appear at a hearing at Hampden on Thursday, March 28, where he will learn the consequences of his post-match words.

CeltsAreHere understands that Celtic will fully stand behind Rodgers and back him to the hill.
