Liel Abada is on the brink of finalising his transfer from Celtic to Charlotte FC, with the move expected to be sealed within the next 24 hours, reports Mark Hendry of Football Scotland.

Abada’s departure comes despite the winger signing a contract extension with Celtic in September. However, his absence from the matchday squad since appearing as a substitute against Hibs on February 7 all but told fans that he wouldn’t pull on the Hoops again.

The terms of Abada’s transfer to Charlotte FC include a 4-year contract, with the MLS club securing his services as a young designated player for a fee of just under £10 million.

Additional add-ons are part of the agreement, although the exact financial details remain unspecified.

It’s worth noting that a portion of the transfer fee will be owed to Petah Tikva, from whom Celtic initially purchased Abada in July 2021, as part of the original agreement.

Abada’s debut for Charlotte FC will face a slight delay due to visa processing,  but the deal’s completion is imminent, marking the end of his chapter at Celtic.

The American side are two games into their season, and have a match against Toronto this weekend before Nashville next. Abada’s debut could come after that in a home match against Columbus.

Alexandro Bernabei is anticipated to join a Brazilian club on loan today, marking another shift within Celtic’s squad.
