Celtic are reportedly set to miss out on Antwerp right-back and heavily linked transfer target Aurelio Buta.

According to Sun Sport, the 24-year old has been watched by scouts of English Premier League side Everton and new boss Rafa Benitez has reportedly made Buta one of his key targets ahead of the new season.

In the last few weeks, Celtic have been heavily linked with a move for the full-back, with an offer in the region of £1 million supposedly knocked back.

The Toffees look set to make their move and complete a deal for £3 million, which the Belgian league was holding out for.

The Portuguese right-back will add depth to the right-back position at Everton, likely replacing former Celtic loanee Jonjoe Kenny.

Despite an upturn in form, in recent weeks from Anthony Ralston, Ange Postecoglou remains in desperate need of another option in the right-back area.

Missing out on another target isn’t ideal, but fingers crossed, we can see more deals being done in defensive areas in the coming weeks.
