It looks like Israel will be without Celtic star Hatem Elhamed for their next international game on Tuesday with the player succumbing to a mystery illness after landing back in his home country.

The Israeli boss, Andreas Herzog confirmed the news and told SunSport the player has been so bad he hasn’t even left the hotel since flying back from their 3-1 defeat to Austria.

“Hatem Abd Elhamed is sick and has been suffering from a virus. He’s not trained and in fact hasn’t even left the team hotel.

“He’s not been able to eat with the rest of the group. Clearly, he’s a major doubt for the game.”

Hatem played centre back for Israel last week and was expected to start the game against Latvia on Tuesday before heading back to Celtic. However, this looks like a no go and Hatem looks like he will be spending the rest of the international break trying to recover from the virus.

Celtic are back in action on Saturday, October 19 and will be hoping they can call upon their right back for the SPFL tie. If not, the responsibility will fall to Moritz Bauer who has been playing their regularly since coming in on loan from Stoke.
