STEPHEN WELSH looks set to come back into the fold this weekend when the Hoops take on Hearts in the SPFL.

The defender scored Celtic’s first goal of the season against Aberdeen on flag day and had an all-around good performance against the Dons. Starfelt was still injured going into matchday two. Many expected Stephen to show up on the team sheet against Ross County. Unfortunately, the defender had succumbed to an illness and dropped out the squad entirely.

Stephen went under a late assessment for the Kilmarnock game but wasn’t deemed fit enough to be in the squad. The Coatbridge bhoy ended up in the stands for the game watching his teammates thrash the Rugby Park side.

Football Scotland has been told they expect Stephen to be available for the game against Hearts which is great news for the player and Ange.

However, in the two games he’s been out, Mortiz Jenz has started both and scored in both. Carl Stafelt is also back in the picture after coming on as a late sub and scoring at Rugby Park.

Timing can be everything, and Stephen will be frustrated he couldn’t make more of his run at centre-back. Celtic are heading into a period where they’ll play at least two games a week, sometimes three. Ange has revealed he will be using his squad to the fullest when the games start coming thick and fast.
