CELTIC have this Thursday afternoon released a statement on why the David Turnbull transfer deal eventually failed.

The club admit it was out with their control once an issue had been found and the player would be out for a significant period of time after surgery.

Celtic looked set to become a Celtic player on Friday when a change of heart seen the player hot foot it back to Glasgow after talking terms with Norwich.

As the days wore on there was clearly something amiss and on Tuesday it was revealed the player’s Celtic medical had thrown up something serious. At that point Celtic could have cut and run but they tried to do a deal with Motherwell with revised terms. The Steelmen were within their rights to reject the new terms and that’s exactly what they’ve done.

Here is a slice of the statement from Celtic.

‘It is regrettable that David will be out of action for a considerable length of time and, clearly, these circumstances are totally outwith the club’s control. We did everything we could to find a solution.

‘We would like to thank David and his representatives for the professionalism they have shown throughout. We also thank Motherwell FC for the way they have handled this process.

‘We wish David all the very best with the operation and every success for the future.’

Celtic will now move on with other targets in mind. There could be a reprise in January but nothing is certain in football.
