Celtic youngster Leo Hjelde is reportedly being monitored by English Premier League side Leeds United.

The 17-year old defender has yet to feature for the Hoops since joining on a three-year deal two years ago but impressed this season whilst out on loan at fellow Scottish Premiership side Ross County.

Hjelde played a part in keeping the Staggies in the division for next season, with former manager John Hughes admitting that he believes the Norweigan has the potential to be the next Virgil Van Dijk.

As reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, this has attracted the interest of Leeds, who are now looking at Hjelde as a possible transfer target.

Whilst still being young and at the early stages of his career, Hjelde has a big chance to feature in the first team next season under new manager Ange Postecoglou.

Many may have been sceptical, but on loan, he has shown that he can play first-team football at this stage of his career.

Fingers crossed, we can see the young defender in action for the Hoops going into next season and not elsewhere at a club such as Leeds.
