Following Celtic’s surprising 1-0 setback against Kilmarnock in the league cup, club legend Chris Sutton voiced his concerns about the current state of the team.

Sutton, always one to wear his heart on his sleeve, Tweeted, “Can’t say it’s a huge shock Celtic losing… the squad is weaker than last season and that should never have been the case…”

Sutton’s comments echo the feelings of many within the Celtic support. The Hoops couldn’t find the back of the net and didn’t look likely to. With eight attempts, not one tested the Killie keeper. For Sutton, a man who has given so much to the club and knows the weight of the jersey, such stats are hard to swallow.

His remarks about the squad’s comparative strength to the previous season are also correct. Jota, who was the shining light in the Celtic team, hasn’t been replaced, and it was evident today with the poor performances from the wingers.  Sutton, like many fans, feels the urgency for quality reinforcements.

Rodgers and Celtic must get their act together before risking further disasters in the future, but as Sutton said, this loss wasn’t unexpected at all.

  1. He is absolutely spot on. From a position of strength to much weaker and Peter Lawell just back. No surprise there!

Peter left the club and we were only going one way, Peter comes back and we start to go backwards. Get him out the club now Dermott!!!

  2. It’s not going to happen! We’re beginning to see here the same pattern of deterioration we witnessed when Rodgers took over at high-flying Leicester. What I’ve seen so far is a pile of young inexperienced projects being brought in to con the fans into believing that money is being spent when, in fact, around £40 million is being hoarded for shareholder profits.

I’ve now watched Celtic’s first three dmoestic matches and I am more convinced than ever that he has utterly wiped out of that team the style and momentum Ange had built. There was not a single Celtic player in the opposition box today when the ball came in because he has them all back in their own half. Add to that the return of old lags Turnbull and Ralston, not to mention the hapless Taylor, and it bodes very ill going forward.

How can Rodgers speak of advancement in Europe when his team can’t even get a result against Killie? I dread what’s coming on September 3 at Ibrox! What the Board will do is wait until he has Celtic out of Europe, struggling in the league and probaby out of the other cup competition before they finally do the right thing and boot him out.

That’s coming from one who actually supported Rodgers’ return, thinking he could keep up with the marker set down by Ange and even improve on it. He started off well with lots of talk about signings and then changed the narrative to “I’ll work with what the club provides”. We can already see the damage he has done and it should be stopped now before he completely destroys the confidence of the team’s good players.

    • Signs were there under Ange at the end of last season before he bailed.
We were hammered at Ibrox, drew with Motherwell & St Mirren & lost to an average Hibs side.
McGregor continues to flatter to deceive while we still persevere with likes of Taylor, Ralston, Turnbull and reward others like Bain, Welsh & Mikey Johnston with extended contracts.
Be as well shutting down the Academy as nothing is coming through and our B team struggle against likes of East Kilbride, Civil Service Strollers.
Far too early to be writing off Brendan when the signs were already there

    • Hi Martin pal I’ve never rated Rodgers style it is pish we got bullied the day i wish we could get ange back he did things the simple way also what a deja vu moment I’m having ere do you remember when he was here before and all of a sudden players getting injured left rite and centre its obvious it’s his training methods I’ve got a bad bad feeling about this season we will win he haw we need a holding mid like wanyama and a physical striker like West ham guy mikael Antonio if that Rodgers twat doesn’t get his act together we will be in bother just wish he wid get tae fck and lawell .

    • Exactly Martin when he was talking about getting signings in he will never ever replace big ange he’s just full of bull she it’s giving us fans false promises etc never replaced jota which I know he won’t board and him he’s just a puppet to them and also he says that he doesn’t need another striker pal wtf
