Celtic announced the signing of Oliver Abildgaard late on Thursday evening. The Danish star flew in on Thursday afternoon to seal the deal taking him from Russia to Scotland.

However, the wording around the deal by Celtic has us, and many other supporters intrigued. At first, we saw Celtic’s announcement and read the words ‘season long’ deal. Our football brains read that as a season long loan, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

Oliver isn’t at Celtic on loan, but he is only at the club for a season at this moment in time.

So why isn’t this a loan deal?

After doing some digging, we found insidethegame.biz had reported on two similar type deals regarding Fabián Balbuena and Wendel. Both players have left their respective clubs in Russia after FIFA extended the ability for foreign players playing in Russia to suspend their contracts until the summer of 2023.

Oliver has effectively suspended his contract with Kazan which will kick back in next summer IF there’s resolution to the ongoing conflict in the region. As far as we’re aware, Under these circumstances Celtic won’t have had to pay any fee for Oliver and negotiated a wage packet independent of his Russian deal for the year.

It’s why there can be no option to buy Albigaard. It means Celtic can still sign the player down the line next summer, but they would have to negotiate with Rubin at that point.

Celtic bought Haksabanovic from Kazan just last week. But unlike, Abilgaard’s deal, there was a fee paid and the player is owned by Celtic on a five-year deal.

  • Foreign players and coaches to have right to suspend their employment contracts until 30 June 2023
  • FIFA to further monitor situation in Ukraine

The Bureau of the FIFA Council has decided to extend the temporary employment rules established in the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP) with the aim of effectively assisting players, clubs and coaches impacted by the war in Ukraine.

The decision follows the RSTP amendments approved by the Bureau of the Council on 7 March 2022 and 16 March 2022, which provided urgent legal certainty and clarity on a number of important regulatory matters.

Under the RSTP provisions approved by the Bureau of the Council, should clubs affiliated to the Ukrainian Association of Football (UAF) or the Football Union of Russia (FUR) not reach a mutual agreement with their respective foreign players and coaches before or on 30 June 2022, and unless otherwise agreed in writing, these players and coaches will have the right to suspend their employment contracts with their clubs until 30 June 2023.

These provisions give players and coaches the opportunity to train, play and receive a salary, while protecting Ukrainian clubs and facilitating the departure of foreign players and coaches from Russia.

Additionally, in relation to the protection of minors, it has been clarified that minors fleeing Ukraine to other countries with their parents due to the armed conflict will be considered to have fulfilled the requirements of article 19 paragraph 2 a) of the RSTP, exempting them from the rule preventing the international transfer of players before the age of 18.

FIFA will continue to monitor the situation in Ukraine closely to ensure that the regulatory framework is adapted according to any new developments.

  1. Its a good move by FIFA, protecting the clubs, who have no say in the conflict, and protecting the players rights too.

Ange and the club have done brilliantly this close season!

  2. The Huns will be beelin’ – a way to get new, better, players without having to fork out a transfer fee? And their stupid moronic backwards club never thought of using it? And now their facing trying to compete in the CL with the assortment of fuds they have already and Morelos is still stinking up the joint!

It truly has been a wonderful window…

  3. I have slaughtered our board on multiple occasions in the past but since Big Ange has come in they’ve been outstanding.

Across the city our embryonic rival’s have just let their two most valuable assets (effectively) walk out the door for FREE…..
