Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton believes that the catchphrase ‘we never stop’ should be changed during the clubs busy spell of fixtures.

The Hoops got back to winning ways at the weekend with a hard fought 2-1 victory over Motherwell at Celtic Park.

It was the clubs first win in four games after going three games without a win which is something the Celtic support aren’t at all used to.

Next up for Celtic is an away trip in the Champions League to Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig with an away tie to St Johnstone wedged in between both games.

Celtic’s squad will be tested through the next month due to the volume of games but it will be vitally important that the team start to deliver results.

“We never stop is the mantra from Postecoglou but it should be ‘we need to get restarted’ after that slip at St Mirren prior to the international matches,” said Chris Sutton writing in The Daily Record.

“I’ve said Celtic could be excused an off-day and a defeat… maybe that was part of the problem in Paisley.

“Let’s face it, pretty much since he walked in the door, the manager’s team had been playing on the edge. They’ve been, by and large, going into every game knowing they couldn’t afford to make a mistake, especially in the Premiership.

“They were six points behind at this stage last season. Even then, every outing was a must-win and they played like it.”

The team showed huge character at times last season which will now be once again important to show as Celtic look to continue to fight on all fronts with so many games on the horizon.

“During this period last season Celtic managed those back-to-back triumphs over Ferencvaros which gave them a chance to get through their Europa League group.”

“It didn’t happen in the end, but now up the levels in the Champions League against RB Leipzig, it’s a similar set of circumstances. Home and away matches that could make or break their chances of progression to the knockout phase of the competition. There are no margins for error at Celtic.”

These final four games before the World Cup will dictate how Celtic’s European journey for the season hopefully progresses, but it will be important that performances quickly begin to turn into results.

This side has proven before that they can rise to the challenge when they are already dismissed. With the squad about to be tested it will be hugely imperative that all players rise to the occasion.

  1. Well put Chris we’ve got to go out with a bit of attitude and force the opposition to make mistakes and pounce and take our chances
