Chris Sutton was full of praise for Brendan Rodgers, highlighting the Irishman’s ability to find a way to win games despite an injury crisis.

With Celtic in action against Kilmarnock this afternoon at Celtic Park, the Hoops face a resilient side that will look to sit in and frustrate for large spells of the game.

Leading to Rodgers yet again going with Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah upfront, having started together upfront for the first time against St Mirren last weekend.

Celtic comfortably won 2-0 in Paisley despite St. Mirren themselves going into the game in good form.

Sutton said [Daily Record], “Going with two strikers at St Mirren last weekend was something different and tells me there’s still a hunt on for the ideal set-up. But securing eight wins and a draw for the last nine games tells you that Rodgers is finding ways to get things done and I am also aware of the external factors which are hampering Celtic at the moment.

“Nonetheless, it has to be pointed out that Rodgers is managing this situation with his best defender Cameron Carter-Vickers either sidelined or not at his peak and one of his most creative and energetic forces in Reo Hatate not being available.

“Carter-Vickers and Hatate will get back and to still be top of the table when you haven’t been at your best for months makes me think there’s no reason why Celtic won’t still be there in May if they step on the gas.”

Celtic supporters will yet again be treated to a front two of Kyogo and Idah against Kilmarnock, meaning that each striker will be able to further develop their partnership together.

Rodgers has already shown he is willing to play with an extra attacker after Idah’s arrival in January on deadline day.

The Irishman’s ability to alter the Celtic setup will undoubtedly prove vital in the second half of the season, having at times in the first half lacked a dominant threat upfront like Idah brings to the side.

  1. Don’t think big Sutton will be hailing Rodgers after another piss poor performance today.. Under Rodgers we have no chance of winning the league, he simply doesn’t have a clue how to utilise the players he has. The guy is a dud.
