Chris Sutton has hit out at John Beaton’s decision to award a penalty to Rangers after a VAR review
Despite Beaton initially booking Fabio Silva for diving after a VAR on-field review, the Scottish referee awarded Rangers a penalty.
Sutton said: (X), “Incredible game. Great advert for Scottish football👏👏Celtic controlled the first half and should have been out of site. The Rangers penalty award rewarding Silva for diving was embarrassing and changed the dynamic. Idah’s goal sensational as was Matondo’s leveller”.
The former Celtic striker is correct to hit out at the penalty decision, which was baffling to watch over and over, with the VAR still images highlighting minimal contact and Silva seemingly looking for the opportunity to go down.
Ultimately, the penalty was a turning point in the game, and if not for poor officiating and VAR intervention, we may very well have been talking about a Celtic win, highlighting yet another costly refereeing decision.
For all VAR’s strengths, this season in Scottish football officials have simply ruined games at times with intervention when it simply was not necessary.
With Brendan Rodgers in the stands for the Livingston game through his previous comments on VAR, he will likely be reserved in the comments he makes on the penalty award to Rangers.
Well, this summer there will be no scottish refs at the euro’s. None at the last world cup. Crawford Allen said we have the some of the best referees on the planet. That is obviously not the case with not having 1 referee at the last major tournament and now the upcoming one. The referee today was a joke and further shows that FIFA & UEFA do not think our officials are competent, are their standard is way above the competance of the Scottish officials, even with VAR they still can’t get the dicision right!
It’s of no major surprise eh…I think Celtic should hear the jock stein statement of if Celtic play to a standard that the referees are irrelevant..it should be played constantly in the dressing room prior to every game…that said it’s blatant the game at ibrox was constantly interrupt by Mr beaton..constantly..they had a right good defensive midfielder in him..breaking up the play…if you or anyone looks at the stats of rangers in Europe with referee’s partial…it’s a different ball game eh pardon the pun..what can we do about it in..well back in to the jock in stein statement..play to a level by they are irrelevant…how do you factor that into the wee training who knows..Silva is a disgrace total disgrace of a human never mind a professional football player..even his own supporters were screaming at him to get up..a total cringe…break a leg Celtic at next derby lol..
