There’s much debate about what Kieran Tierney is worth because he plays in the Scottish league but ask Chris Sutton and he’ll tell you it’s not about the league, it’s about the individual and his talent.

Brendan Rodgers said the same thing and Sutton is getting more and more annoyed by the notion Celtic should sell their star player on the cheap because the EPL refuse to pay top dollar. If that’s the case then Celtic should just not entertain the notion of selling the defender.

However, Sutton knows what exactly he’d be saying to the Arsenal board if he was in charge of Celtic’s transfer dealings.

Writing in his RecordSport column, the former EPL and SPL winner believes there is a common ground to be met and that Manchester Utd’s deal for Wan-Bissaka should very much come into play.

“There is a halfway house here. Arsenal think they can get Tierney for around £20m. Wan Bissaka has gone for £50m.

“That means they meet in the middle figure should be at the £35m mark.

“And, if Celtic accept anything significantly less than that for Tierney during this transfer window, then they have been insulted again just as they were over the sale of van Dijk.”

Celtic should not be clamouring to sell Kieran Tierney but if they do accept a bid then Chris Sutton’s middle ground is the most positive of the negative scenarios.
