CHRIS SUTTON has urged Celtic star Kristoffer Ajerto stay at Celtic for at least another season to develop more under Neil Lennon.

Sutton used his RecordSport column to make the plea to Ajer about the pitfalls of leaving too early. The BT Sports pundit also questioned the links between Ajer and the likes of Milan and Madrid – citing Virgil van Dijk had to go through Southampton to get his proper big money move.

Sutton wrote: “Working for Lennon is the best way to get better at this stage of his career.

“Another season allows him to work on parts of his game that need improving as he’s still a baby in terms of his football development. There’s no rush.

“It’s good to be hungry but another year’s experience at a club where he’s virtually guaranteed to play and develop would be perfect. Timing is everything
in football and, for Ajer, it’s important he picks the right moment to move on that suits his career.

“Now is definitely not that time. Reality is everything and for Ajer to go higher, he must keep his feet planted on the ground.”

Ajer has been a big influence on the team since making the breakthrough but there are parts of his game that need to be rounded off. The pressure of next season will help the Norwegian thrive.

Having just signed with a top dutch agency after dumping his longterm representative, we’re not sure what the defender is thinking.

Celtic will likely be sounding out replacements if Kristoffer does tell the club he wants to go.

We have no idea what the transfer window will look like this summer and when it will officially close but there is a question mark hanging over Ajer’s head.
