A very good point was made by Chris Sutton over the weekend.

Had Celtic manager Neil Lennon found himself in the position Steven Gerrard is currently in this season – the Celtic manager would likely lose his job.

The utter shambles that was the second half of the season for Gerrard and his players saw them fall thirteen points behind their rivals.

Celtic, on the other hand, changed their system and came back from a defeat at Celtic Park to absolutely wipe the floor with everyone in their path.

Sutton points our Gerrard appears to be getting a free ride from the media and the Ibrox support and is still being praised after two trophyless seasons.

“Be honest here. If Lennon had come back from Dubai and turned in the identical domestic results that Steven Gerrard produced across the city, he would have been fighting for his job.

“If Lennon had dropped 13 points in five games to Hearts, Hamilton, Kilmarnock, St Johnstone, and Aberdeen to fall 11 behind Rangers, he probably wouldn’t have survived.

“But the fact of the matter is he didn’t. He built on a strong first half to the season and ensured that the destination of the title was beyond doubt.”

Celtic are set to be crowned champions within the next 48 hours.
