Celtic legend Chris Sutton has expressed his disappointment following his former team’s 2-0 loss in Rome. In a candid Twitter post, Sutton remarked,

“A predictably disappointing night… can’t get away from it that as Champions League groups go this was a gentle one and one point from five games in this group is not good enough. The team tonight really lacked physicality as well as real belief against a bang average Lazio.”

Celtic’s Champions League journey ended in heartbreak against Lazio, marking yet another late defeat. Despite a valiant effort at the Stadio Olimpico, Brendan Rodgers’ side was left reeling by Ciro Immobile’s late brilliance.

Lazio’s leading scorer, initially benched by coach Maurizio Sarri, came on to score two crucial goals in the last ten minutes, leaving Celtic stunned.

The defeat was further compounded when a potential penalty opportunity for Celtic was overturned after a VAR review, denying David Turnbull a chance to score in the Group E encounter.

This result means Celtic will be absent from European football come January, having secured only one point from five group stage games.

It also extends the club’s run to 15 games without a win in European competitions, sending Rodgers and his team back to the drawing board after a disheartening campaign.
