Celtic’s 1-0 loss to Kilmarnock on Sunday was a major concern. The defeat sounded many alarm bells for all those involved with the champions.

In reaction to the match and the Hoops’ season so far in general, Chris Sutton revealed his thoughts. Speaking on MailSport, he said: “I don’t know whether Celtic have been complacent or arrogant in terms of, they’ve already got Champions League qualification. I think they’ve sat on their hands too much.”

Sutton is always set with his opinions. He has been no different in this instance. The ex-Hoops striker also thinks the club have let certain players leave too easily and that they are now weaker than last season: “I think Celtic are weaker going into this season and it’s a worry. Now, the pressure is on because Brendan, the first time around, [won] seven trophies out of seven domestically and is already out of the league cup”

We can already say that Celtic will have a less successful campaign this time than last because of league cup elimination. This possibility has led Sutton to suggest that Rodgers will already feel the heat despite not being back in Glasgow for too long.

The Englishman thinks the Bhoys are not cut out for Europe yet. He said: “Looking at the Champions League, which is a big deal for Celtic, they’re always up against it in the Champions League, and the squad are looking really, really weak.”

Albeit the squad may not be the strongest at the minute, there is still time left in the window for the Hoops. As well as this, there are numerous injuries in Rodgers’ squad right now.

However, between now and the beginning of September, there are opportunities for the double-treble-winning manager to strengthen his team, although Sutton’s claim is not inaccurate.

  1. The Celtic Board has absolutely no ambitions in Europe, which is why they’re not spending to improve the team. They reckon that if they can keep qualifying and get the entry money, that’ll do nicely. Celtic may be a big club in terms of fan base and global exposure over many decades, but it’s tiny in terms of ambition. Outside of the Scottish league, Celtic are just minnows. And that’s the way the Board like it.

  2. Of Course PL comes back & things start going wrong….No Club has a Divine Right to Win but Fans Deserve Squad of Players who have the Ability to Win Any Game Whether Domestic or International.
