Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has this afternoon confirmed that centre-half Cameron Carter-Vickers is back fit and ready to face St. Johnstone tomorrow afternoon at Parkhead.

The imposing defender missed last weekend’s match at home to Livingston in the Scottish Cup, his absence proving notable.

It looks like it will be a case of one in, one out at centre-half this weekend. Liam Scales won’t feature, but Rodgers revealed that Carter-Vickers will likely play: “Cameron Carter-Vickers [is] fine”, he said (Clyde 1 SSB).

“He has trained and looks good so that’s great he’s available.”

The USA internationalist will slot straight back into the heart of the defence this weekend. He will likely partner Stephen Welsh, although a lot of supporters would like to see Gustaf Lagerbielke given a rare opportunity.

Despite being one of the only defenders who has remained fit throughout the campaign, the former Elfsborg man has made just nine appearances in all competitions and failed to get a deserved run in the team.

Tomorrow could be the day he kickstarts his Celtic career, but one assumes it will be academy graduate Welsh who gets the nod alongside Carter-Vickers, whose upcoming return is key.
