Celtic have this morning confirmed that midfielder Yosuke ‘Guchi’ Ideguchi has signed for Japanese champions Vissel Kobe permanently. It comes after the midfielder spent 2023 on loan in his homeland with Avispa Fukuoka.

There, he was vastly impressive and ended up being nominated for J. League Player of the Year. This caught the attention of Kobe, Kyogo’s former club.

Signed by Celtic alongside his fellow countrymen Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate two years ago, Guchi is the only one of the trio it never worked out for in Glasgow. Injury issues didn’t help the 27-year-old who mustered just seven appearances for the Hoops in his time at the club.

In an official post on X, Celtic announced the departure, wishing Guchi the best of luck for the future.

This month, it is certain the Japanese midfielder won’t be the only departure from Celtic. His sale may catalyse an almighty clearing of the deadwood as manager Brendan Rodgers looks to add quality going into a crucial title race in the second half of the season.
