Celtic Legend Kenny Dalglish has hailed the advantage the club has over our nearest rivals heading into the summer transfer window.

Having bagged the League Cup and SPFL Premiership in Ange Postecoglou’s maiden season, the Scottish football legend believes his former side are in a terrific place this summer with entry to the Champions League group stages guaranteed along with a huge financial windfall.

“Celtic signed Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent deal from Tottenham for a fee in the region of £6-million, plus add-ons. And Ange Postecoglou appears to be close to doing one or two more bits of business,” said Kenny Dalglish speaking to the Sunday Post.

“Rangers haven’t added to their squad, but they have managed to re-sign Allan McGregor.

“They will strengthen, of course, but not knowing if they are in the Champions League or not doesn’t give them that certainty.”

With that in mind, Celtic have been able to act sharply this window also bringing in Daizen Maeda permanently as well as  Benjamin Siegrist.

It is looking increasingly likely that Jota and Alexandro Bernabei are set to be added to the summer haul soon with Postecoglou looking to get business done early.

In previous seasons we have seen Celtic hold off in the summer transfer market until the level of European competition has been decided which has not worked to our benefit at all with the Hoops last featuring the Champions League in five years ago.

We were all delighted to see Carter-Vickers commit his future to club which I doubt would have been as easy a sell without the guarantee of Champions League football. The competition doesn’t just impact players coming in but going out as players will want to naturally feature in the competition and stick around.

“Celtic are in a position to spend right now because they know what their income is going to be for the next six months.

“They have that certainty, and that’s a great position for any manager or chief executive to be in.

“It will be interesting to see who else big Ange adds to his squad but, like Allan McGregor across the city at Ibrox, he will do well to better the signing of Carter-Vickers in terms of quality.

“The American defender is excellent. He has a presence and is really powerful, and settled into the club very quickly. That was so important.”

There’s still a long time to go in the window and it doesn’t look like Celtic have finished their business just yet. Postecoglou’s signings have been excellent so far during his time at the club and every Celtic support trusts him to get it right.
