Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack has not shirked from answering questions put to him by the Dons support when it comes to Scott Brown.

It’s always a tough sell for the club to sell a player who has made their name in Glasgow but so much vitriol was sent their way when Scott Brown was announced.

The biggest issue seemed to surround Scott Brown’s backing of Ivan Tonev back in 2014.

Tonev was found guilty on the balance of probability of racially abusing Aberdeen player Shay Logan. At the time, Scott Brown backed Tonev’s version of events having spoken with the on-loan player.

Cormack absolutely destroyed the notion that anyone should be holding the incoming midfielder to account for his and tackled the issue head on.

“It’s important that you get the right person with the right values.” Cormack explained as cited by Record Sport.

“So let’s talk about the incident with Tonev.

“Tonev was found guilty of abusing Shay and was rightly punished.

“We as a club stood up for Shay. The only time Shay thinks about it is when others bring it up.

“There’s no issue between Shay and Scott. Both are tough competitors on the field.

“Rightly or wrongly, players invariably support what their team-mates say to them.

“That does not make them guilty of the crime their team-mate is punished for.

“In Scott’s case, we all saw him on the spur of the moment go over to Glen Kamara and show solidarity when Celtic played Rangers.

“Scott has led players of all backgrounds for the best part of 15 years.

“He is today different off the field to his on field character as many people will know.

“The charitable work he does goes above and beyond. As such, the board is convinced of Scott’s character and credentials.”

Cormack has got it absolutely spot on here.

Scott Brown is an incredible individual. While the opposition support only sees a snarling, tough tackling and vocal Celtic player, he’s so much more than that.

His charitable side and the work he does away from the limelight is outstanding. The Celtic captain even once signed a painting of Ryan Kent taking a swing at him so a charity could benefit.

Quite simply put, when he pulls on an Aberdeen jersey I have no doubt the support will love him.
