NEIL LENNON is trying to keep John McGinn focused at Hibs while the speculation around his future continues.

The former Celtic manager empathises with the midfielder who once was held by Leicester when Celtic wanted to sign him back in the O’Neill era.

Eventually, Lennon got his move and McGinn may still get the same BUT he will have to be patient after both clubs reached a stalemate.

The Irishman also dropped the bombshell that it may never happen.

“The club have been really strong and I totally back that.

“We have our valuation. He is our top player and no-one yet has met that valuation that satisfies the club.

“John is quite satisfied with that at the minute. I’ve had chats with him to see how he is because there will be people talking to him, the agent, his family, giving him all titbits of advice.

“I’ve been in that situation so I know how difficult it can be getting messages from here, there and everywhere. Ideally, it is good for him to train and play.

“Listen, the deal might never happen, he has to get his head round that as well so we try to prepare him for all eventualities the best we can.”

Celtic have had three bids rejected by the Easter Road club. The latest bid being around £2million.

McGinn is in the last year of his Hibs deal and Celtic are wary of paying over the odds for a player they can get for nothing in less than 12 months.

  1. The end of the McGinn saga, thank god. Lennon and Hibs have made an absolute mess of of the player and clubs interests. Now lets get after the WestHam midfielder.

  2. Give them nothing and sign him on a pre-contract in January. Petrie is an SFA scumbag and it would great to see him raging at getting nothing for their starman ???
