With loan deals about to expire, it will soon be time for Jack Hendry to return to Celtic after an ill-fated time in Australia. The player picking up an injury in his second game for his loan side and then the football shutdown.

Jack was surplus to requirements at Celtic and I don’t think anything has changed since then. The defender barely getting a look in with Neil Lennon as manager. Even under Brendan Rodgers, Jack wasn’t utilised often.

With the transfer window bound to open at some point this summer – Hendry’s former Wigan teammate Alex Bruce believes the Celtic defender should leave the club this summer on a permanent basis.

Jack is only 24 and if he can go out and get proper game time elsewhere, it would be best for him and Celtic.

Bruce told Football Insider“The one thing I would say to anyone who’s at a big club and not playing is there’s always lesser clubs you can go and play for.

“When you’re playing and playing games, that’s when you can be judged. When you’re sitting at a club like Celtic and you’re not playing – it’s like the lad who I was at Wigan with, Jack Hendry.

“You think it’s better to go and play for a club like Celtic and sign and you don’t play, you get your head down and all the rest of it. There’s always life, especially when you’re at a good age like he is, to go and prove yourself somewhere else. Don’t be afraid of taking a step down to come back again.

“Hendry got a decent reputation for himself, went to Celtic and hasn’t played really. To go back to a Dundee or somewhere like that to get back playing, you’re always better off doing that. I know you might like being associated with a club like Celtic but if you’re not playing, you’re no good to anybody.”

Hendry came in from Dundee to challenge for a centre-back place but he can’t get anywhere near the team. When defenders have been injured and Jack has been available for selection both managers have played Nit Bitton as a centre-back.

Some times things just don’t work out. If he can get a move away for the football restart down the line then good luck to the lad.
