Craig Gordon has been a fantastic signing for Celtic, signing on a free back in 2014 and quickly becoming Ronny Deila’s number one.

His heroics have saved Celtic’s blushes many times. Craig fought back from a series of career threatening injuries before being signed by Celtic. He’s rarely missed a game for the club and that cannot be underestimated.

However, with the rumours tonight that Rodgers is in the market for a goalkeeper, is the 33-year old on borrowed time at Celtic?

Normally a goalkeeper at his age still has a few years at his best but the physical toll he’s had to pay over the years to continue playing could catch up with him sooner.

Celtic have been linked with Tottenham’s Michel Vorm tonight, a player Rodgers knows very well from Swansea. However, if the manager is to drop such a popular player in Gordon he must be sure it’s for the benefit of the squad as a whole.

Craig Gordon has served us well and I’d like to think he’s got a few good years yet.

  1. Are you serious?! Gordon has been awful since the inter games. Repeatedly costs us in big games. I can’t remember the last time he “saved” us. He was to blame for both goals against Astana. Rodgers has clearly identified this which is again to his credit. He impresses me more with every day that passes.

    • Wrong, Craig Gordon has been brilliant for us, he has had so many different defenders in front of him, due to the loss of Van Diike and Denayer, we would have been out of the champions league now if it was not for his saves in Astana, most of these goals you are talking about has come from our central defenders, especially Ambrose.

      • “Wrong”, just cause I have a different opinion?! The saves he made in Astana would have been made by any competent amateur gk. Any delivery into 6 yard box has him flapping and invariably ends up in a goal. It is no coincidence that Rodgers comes in and notes that. If we persist and he, inevitably, costs us again in Europe you will be screaming at Rodgers for not addressing.

  2. I think it’s the distribution that sets Vorm apart and that could well be why Brendan wants to go after him. He is rapid at getting the ball moving when it breaks down in the box. Gordon has been a good servant but he looked wrecked with nerves in the European games.

  3. We need a new keeper, Craig has done well but 2nd half of last season and so far this season he has been really poor. His decision making and his kicking are awful and are now costing us goals. Brendan can’t afford to have performances like the 2 legs against Astana and has to be ruthless and born is ideal and is also good with ball at his feet.

  4. gordon was a great signing for us, and we barely missed forster that season. his form dipped last season, and hes been at fault for both astana goals, should have saved the gibraltar goal, and awful positioning for barces third. i think hes earned the chance to sort it out, but if we can get michael worm, then we cant knock that back. hes a great keeper.
gordon has barely missed a game, but thats not necessarily a good thing. with his injury record, we shoudl ave been taking the opportunity to rest him. bailly hasnt reached five games, and fasan has just started getting friendlies. we really dont know what the backup keepers offer.

  5. I have wanted Celtic to sign a new keeper for a while. Vorm could be a coup. The reality is there are very few quality keepers in Celtics price range when top Championship keepers are being priced at around 10 million. Leaving 3 main transfer options an inexperienced keeper al a Forster, premier league no. 2 (Vorm) or pluck someone from Europe. There’s also the 4th option of Scott Bain. Perhaps byased being Irish but would love to sign Darren Randolph. He ooses composure knows the league and gained great big game experience with Ireland and West Ham last season

    • What we must not do is sign any keeper from a Scottish club, remember Douglas, Brown, Marshall Connaghan etc. The last decent keeper we signed from a Scottish club was Ally Hunter from Kilmarnock, and that was back in the seventies.

  6. Good keeper when he first came into the team but his distribution and decision making have always been suspect.
This has become more evident in recent games and perhaps it is time for a change.

  7. I have admired Vorm for the last 3 years and he is too good to be Tottenham’s reserve keeper.
Please sign him, when he was at Swansea, he was in my dream team because he was the best in the league.

  8. Have to say he has been a talking point on my bus going home from game all last season. He has not really improved at the euro play offs. Really don’t know why he has lost his confidence as he was fantastic during his first season. He really must get back to where he was if not he must be replaced. This is one position on the park we cannot be complacent with.

  9. Agreed, has been a decent keeper but confidence in his defence has been to his detriment. Think he is not at his best anymore and is costing the team. Efe? He’s not that bad yet !!

  10. I have to agree with many posts here. Gordon had a great first season and has made huge gaffs in big games ever since. He is fast becoming a liability. He is making basic errors, costly basic errors! We may just have a goalie on hand with Logan Bailley. But we need a solid experienced goalie. There are lots of excellent goalies around as back-ups in England. Get one. Get two. But we can’t depend on Gordon. He will cost us ten points this season.

  11. Celtic need to sort out the defense that’s were the problem is how many have they let in in the first 10 min of a game . we will not get eny were till the director’s spend some serious money a club off this size should at least get past the league stage of the European cup .

  12. Not before time.Gordon had 1 good season ,has bn suspect ever since.rodgers has identified the weaknesses,Ambrose n him.lustigs position as well must be under threat as he’s not the same player, mainly down 2 playing thru injuries.

  13. If Efe had headed that ball he would be slaughtered by the SMSM and some fans,it’s time to get Gordon out the team he is a liability.

  14. New keeper and a goal scorer for me.

Gordon is far from being poor, but needs either competition or a rest.

A striker now would fill me with confidence for the season ahaead

    • I totally agree we need to put all the money available into buying one credible signature signing of a striker and leave the bargain basement to the other shower that has the Gaul to still call themselves rangers TC hail hail

  15. Gordon is a very good keeper, playing behind what is laughably called our central defence is a hard shift for anybody. He will come good again when the defence gets settled and starts working again.
