Incoming CEO Dominic McKay confirmed that former manager Gordon Strachan wouldn’t be returning as Director of Football.

Speaking alongside Ange Postecoglou at the duo’s first press conference since joining the club, McKay was asked about the structure that was possibly going to be put in behind the scenes.

While we still await clarification about whether a Director of Football will be involved, McKay bluntly stated that Strachan would not be involved in that role.

When asked if Gordon Strachan will be returning, McKay answered; “No.

“As I mentioned a moment ago, one of the things that any chief executive wants to do is look across the whole organisation.

“This is a fantastic club, with really solid foundations. But I want to make my own mark, and part of that is looking across how we might want to modernise and how we might want to evolve—whether that is on the business side, the football side, or the engagement side.

“SO, we will take our time, make sure the right structure is in place, make sure we have a modern, forward-looking club and as part of that a critical component is to have a successful winning team, led by a brilliant manager and that is what we have managed to secure.”

In the past few months, the question has been repeatedly asked whether a Director of Football/Technical Director would be involved behind the scenes.

Last week, the links of Gordon Strachan came about, but that has obviously been shut down by McKay now.

It remains unanswered, though, whether we will see someone in that position any time soon.

The word that Dominic McKay is keen to use is ‘modernise’. So, a move like this would surely suggest that the club is modernising and move forward in the right direction.
