BRENDAN RODGERS confirmed Dedryck Boyata will NOT be available for the St Johnstone game on Wednesday and there’s doubt over whether Filip Benkovic will play after the player picked up a knock in training.

This is a nightmare scenario for Celtic but also something which gives a glimpse into the end of the season when both players move on.

Boyata is running down his contract while Benkovic is due back at Leicester after the end of this season leaving Celtic without their first choice centre back pairing.

Wednesday looks like it could give us a peek into the future to see how Jozo and Ajer get on as Celtic centre back pairing. Brendan Rodgers said he wasn’t in the market for a centre-back this window so there’s a genuine possibility the pair would be the defenders to lead Celtic into Euro qualifiers.

Speaking to Celtic TV ahead of Wednesday’s game Rodgers confirmed the injuries.

“Dedryck still suffering a little bit, too big a risk to try and force it.

“Filip Benkovic has taken a knock, so we’ll see where he is.”
