While Celtic fans patiently wait on news of new signings there is the small matter of sorting out the futures of players who are already at the club.

There are eight Celts who have just entered the last year of their Celtic contracts and quite frankly it looks like most of them will be going towards the exit sooner rather than later.

The ones that should concern Celtic most is obviously James Forrest and Dedryk Boyata – I leave Brown out that ecquasion because he will quietly sign a deal when it’s put in front of him.

It should be of the upmost importance that both players  are tied down to extended contracts before the season starts. The duo have their critics but Celtic are certainly a stronger side with both of them in the team.

Then you have Scott Allan and Ryan Christie. Brendan Rodgers keeps talking both players up but on more than one occasion hinted towards their Parkhead exit as he can’t offer them first team football on a regular basis. Christie might try his luck for six months where Allan seems to be waiting on a move happening.

Lustig getting a new deal would certainly be heart over head. The player has slowed down but he still can offer Celtic something going forward if he was to be handed a new two-year deal. The Swedes experience, passion and drive could be a great influence as he becomes more of a squad player than a first team select.

This leaves Dorus de Vries and Cristian Gamboa, both Rodgers signings, both failed to make the grade. Celtic are waiting on Dorus finding a new club and have told the player he’s free to go. If Celtic can get any money for Gamboa then they’ll certainly look to offload the Costa Rica Star before his deal runs out.
