Former Celtic youngster Barry Hepburn has been promoted to the under-19s side of European Giants Bayern Munich.

It was revealed on the German club’s official website this afternoon that the 17-year old would be making the jump up another age level to play in the under-19s side.

This also means he will join another Scottish youngster and former Celtic academy player Liam Morrison in featuring for that side next season.

Of course, even though it can be exciting to see academy players such as Hepburn go on and look to play for one of the biggest sides across Europe, it is also frustrating how they have come to play for them.

There is no doubting the size of a club like Bayern, but at the Celtic Academy, we should be looking to progress our players through to the first team and give them a pathway that makes this possible.

Ultimately though, in recent years, we haven’t seen enough of it, and that is why these lads choose to move on.

We look to be doing something right in terms of producing the talent that attracts interest from some of the worlds biggest clubs, but it is time to try and keep them around to improve the Hoops future going forward.
