Celtic social media was abuzz with the news talent hunter Mark Cooper had took on a full time role with Celtic.

Cooper, a Celtic fan, has carved out a career in searching out top talent, mainly on the other side of the world. One tweet in particular for Celtic fans excited when a young Cooper identified a very young Federico Valverde who he compared to Paul McStay at the time.

There had been some suggestion and speculation Cooper was coming into take over from Mark Lawwell who left the club in March after an unsuccessful spell.

According to a source close to the club, Cooper, known for his expertise in MLS and South American football, has joined Celtic’s scouting team with a specific focus on unearthing new talent but won’t be in charge of the club’s overall strategy. This appointment comes as the club continues its search for a new head of recruitment, a critical position that remains vacant since Lawwell’s departure.

The club’s decision to focus Cooper’s role on talent identification rather than strategy aligns with Celtic’s ongoing efforts to tap into new talent pools to bolster their squad.

Celtic have a narrow window of what they need in a player before they bring them to the club. Most scouts haves eyes fixated on players between the ages of 18-23. Buying these type of players at a reasonable price and then selling on for a massive profit a few years down the line.
