There have been contrasting reports surrounding a move for Motherwell goalkeeper Liam Kelly to Celtic.

It was initially said on Wednesday evening that Brendan Rodgers was interested in signing the out-of-contract 28-year-old in the summer but contrary to this, The Sun then wrote that the Bhoys will not be pursuing a move for Kelly.

His manager at Motherwell, Stuart Kettlewell, was quizzed on the matter yesterday, admitting that he has no knowledge of any Celtic interest in the player but if there was, it wouldn’t surprise him.

He said: [Glasgow Times] “You’ve possibly got more information than I have. That’s certainly not something that I’ve spoken to Liam about and I try to speak to him on a daily basis.

“I’ve trusted Liam and you look at his performances and the numbers he bashes out every season.

“You look at his ability and all these different things, his leadership has to go in there. How good a goalkeeper he is, not just with his feet but with his hands as well.

“I think he’s top drawer.

“What wouldn’t surprise me is a goalkeeper of his stature and standing attracting interest.”

A good shot-stopper, one assumes if he was signed, Kelly would be a number two and fill one of the homegrown vacancies for the Hoops’ European squads.

The former Livingston and QPR man wouldn’t be the first-choice ‘keeper and would have to decide whether he wants to sacrifice regular game time before moving to Parkhead.

It is known that Celtic and Rodgers want to strengthen the goalkeeping department this summer and while the Scotland cap would bring squad depth, much more quality is needed in a Joe Hart replacement.
