VIRGIL VAN DIJK spoke briefly about his last visit to the Camp Nou with Celtic as he prepares to face Barcelona with his current club Liverpool.

Football’s most expensive defenders revealed he learned a lot that night with Celtic as the Bhoys could do nothing to prevent an absolute doing by the home side. The final result was 6-1 on the night and it was never close unlike previous battles Celtic had against Barcelona in the years previous.

The Dutchman has gone on to great things since his days at Celtic. He could still land a Premier League and Champions League double by the end of the season. The defender is currently the captain of Holland and at £75m the player still seems like a bargain for Liverpool.

As he gets ready for the semi-final against the Catalans, Virgil recalls his Celtic humbling to Barca.

“It is not like we are going there for a holiday or something. I think this can be totally different than when I was there the last time.

“If you are losing 6-1, as a defender, you can’t say you had a good game but the good thing for me personally was I took a lot of experience from that night and that helped me, obviously.

“It is an historic stadium and it was my first time and my only time so far, so I am looking forward to playing them again.”

Virgil thanked his former clubs, including Celtic after picking up the PFA player of the year award at the weekend.

For Celtic fans, they see the big centre-back fulfilling the potential we all knew he had.
