Australian goalkeeper Matt Ryan has been tipped for a move to Scotland to link up with former international boss Ange Postecoglou.

The Brighton goalkeeper spent the last six months of the season on loan at Arsenal, and whilst it has been suggested that he could make a move back to London on a permanent, the Hoops could reportedly hijack that move.

Ryan fell out of favour under Graham Potter at Brighton and then moved to the Gunners as an understudy to Bernd Leno, featuring just three times for Mikel Arteta.

As reported by SussexLive, it was suggested this morning by journalist Alex Crooks on talkSport that Postecoglou could make a move to bring him north of the border.

“Maty Ryan spent the second half of last season on loan at his boyhood heroes [Arsenal].

“There is a possibility that loan could become a permanent move. But it has just been suggested to me that Ange Postecoglou, who managed Maty Ryan for Australia, could also be interested in taking the Brighton goalkeeper to Celtic.”

The goalkeeper has very much been a problematic position for Celtic in the last 12 months.

Vasilias Barkas came in last summer and was expected to be number one but struggled for form, which meant both Scott Bain and Conor Hazard also featured in the first-team.

With all three rotating at different points in the season, it left us with an unsettled defence.

So you would imagine this is an issue that Ange will look to sort instantly.

Mat Ryan would be a trusted name for the 55-year old manager to make a move for this summer, and it probably wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see us strongly linked with him.
