One of Brendan Rodgers first signings as Celtic manager Dorus de Vries has hung up his gloves at the age of 38.

The goalkeeper who was brought in from Nottingham Forest as competition for Craig Gordon never made the grade at Celtic. The Dutchman had a string of erratic performances which culminated in a half time substitution during a Kilmarnock game at Celtic Park when he was beaten from nearly 40 yards out.

Rodgers craved a ball playing goalkeeper who could help start Celtic’s attack and always knew Craig Gordon wasn’t that guy. However, his shot stopping ability always kept him in the position and Dorus sitting on the bench.

The Dutch goalie fell further down the pecking order when Scott Bain came into the club. His contract expired at the start of July and the player used his Instagram to announce his retirement.

We wish Dorus all the best with retirement.
