Former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie has called for Nicky Hammond to be the next man to follow Neil Lennon out the door at the club.

Speaking to Football Insider, McAvennie believes that Hammond should be the next to exit after the ‘terrible’ recruitment in the last few seasons under both Lennon and the Celtic head of recruitment.

“The recruitment has been terrible, absolutely terrible.”

“We have players now sat on big money in Klimala, Ajeti, Barkas and Duffy. Yes, Duffy can go back but as for the rest of them, I just do not get it.

“Who in God’s name brought them in? It was big money as well. How can somebody suggest we would make money on these £5million players. It is never going to happen.

“I think Hammond will be following Lenny out the door.”

After the announcement that Neil Lennon will be departing the club yesterday morning, that means that both the Northern Irishman and also Peter Lawwell will no longer be involved with the club in the next few months.

It suggests that there is a structural change coming this summer, especially with incoming CEO Dominic McKay reportedly keen to bring in either a Sporting Director or Director of Football.

This does leave Hammond in an unknown situation when it comes to his future. Only those involved at the top of the club will know where his position stands come the summer but with all the change that is inbound, it would be no surprise to see Hammond one of the next to follow out the door.
