NEIL LENNON had attempted to take Mark Fotheringham to Cyprus to be his assistant at Omonia. However, the former Celtic man has claimed that the ‘figures’ weren’t suitable to tempt him to join the Neil Lennon in the dugout.

Lennon was out of work for over a year before he was appointed boss of the Cypriot club on Monday, and he will now have to find another person willing to take on the duty.

Scott Brown has been offered the chance to get some experience with Brendan Rodgers down south after he announced his retirement on Tuesday. Could Neil Lennon look to reunite with his former captain in Cyprus?

Mark Fotheringham, also a former Celtic player who has worked in Cyprus before, was set to join Neil. However, he revealed to SunSport that that would no longer be the case, saying;

“Neil made contact at the start of the weekend and said that he wanted me to join him.

“He liked my coaching experience and especially that I’d spent time in Cyprus with Famagusta.

“Omonia started talks with my representative for me to go there and be Neil’s assistant.

“But, unfortunately, we couldn’t reach an agreement, the figures weren’t right.

“It would’ve been a great opportunity for me to work with Neil. It was a big compliment that he wanted me to join him.”

Mark came through the ranks at Celtic and made three appearances for the club back in the early 00s.

Now that Neil is in management, we can be thankful that there will no longer be negative comments from the Northern Irishman last season.

It’ll be interesting to see how long he lasts. He hasn’t got the best managerial record for jobs out of Scotland; could this be a turning point for the manager?
